A 70s Vegas Tycoon

PC · Windows · Steam · Las Vegas 1971–1979

Las Vegas · 1971–1979

Rise from a sawdust joint downtown to a marble palace on the Strip: run five casinos through 1970s Las Vegas, where every card, wheel and die is real, your staff have quirks, and a corporation wants your house.

Pure management: you run the house, you never place a bet. No real-money gambling, nothing to buy in the game.

The career

Five houses, one decade

Sonny Adler slides you the key to a tired saloon downtown. Eight years later you might own a palace on the Strip, if the corporation everyone calls “Brutus” doesn't buy the town first.

  1. Lucky Spur, 1971

    1971

    Lucky Spur

Downtown · sawdust and light bulbs

No marble, no pool, no band. A wooden house with light bulbs on a Downtown side street, sawdust on the boards and a slot machine that sticks. Sonny Adler leans in the door: “Not the Strip, kid. But it's yours.”

  2. Sunburst, 1972

    1972

    Sunburst

The Strip · turquoise and tangerine

“The Sunburst is bigger, brighter and louder, and it has been without a manager since spring. The pool is freshly painted, the band comes on Fridays. The rest is up to you.” — Marion Kessler

  3. Desert Rose, 1973

    1973

    Desert Rose

The Strip · teal and brass

“The Desert Rose needs someone who knows the tables from the bottom up. The owners are patient people, as long as the numbers add up.” Dolores Vane keeps your seat at the bar free.

  4. Starlite, 1974

    1974

    Starlite

The Strip · neon and chrome

“The gentlemen in the back room are counting, and they count carefully.” A second envelope lies on the desk: Mr. Haskell of the Nevada Gaming Commission would like a word.

  5. Hadrian's, 1979

    1979

    Hadrian's

The Strip · marble and the stock ticker

Memo 79-114, Consolidated Leisure Corporation: “Hadrian's has been ours since Monday. The board expects numbers, not stories.”

The house rules

Why you'll stay for one more night

Blackjack tables at Hadrian's, 1979

Every card is really dealt

Blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, baccarat and slots run hand by hand, spin by spin, roll by roll. Guests hit, double, split and bluff according to who they are. Whales drop fifty grand in a night, and every so often a quiet man in a cardigan starts counting cards. 3:2 or 6:5, soft 17, single or double zero: the house edge is yours to tune.

Act card: Sonny Adler slides you the key to the Lucky Spur

A story across five houses

An 8 to 12 hour campaign told in acts, with promotions, story cards and a finale on the Strip. Along the way the mob era ends, the Gaming Control Board asks questions, cheats work your tables and some of your own people skim. Post guards, check suspects, hand out bans.

Build mode: place slot machines, tables, bars and stages

Painted seventies, built by you

Place tables, slot rows, bars, a diner, lounges and a show stage on an isometric floor. Open upper floors, a rooftop lounge and a cellar with a back room. Book big bands, revues and lounge acts with their own songs, and let every house play its own soundtrack.
